A small plane has killed at least one person and injured several others after skidding off the runway in an east Indonesian province. All 15 people onboard the Twin Otter propeller aircraft were said to be safe, the official news agency Antara reported Wednesday.
It was not immediately clear what caused the accident at the Sugapa Airport in the Paniai district of Indonesia’s easternmost province of Papua, local Metro TV said.
At least one person was killed when the jet ran off the tarmac while trying to land, plowing into a group of bystanders.
The exact number or condition of those injured was not immediately known and provincial officials could not be reached for comment.
