Tribe Chief: Special autonomy is a solution for the welfare of the people in Papua

Most Papuan believe that Special autonomy is a solution for many problems in Papua and West Papua provinces.

Jayapura (ANTARA) – The chief of the Central Highlands Tribe, Bani Tabuni, said that the special autonomy (autonomy) given to Papua is one of the solutions to improve the welfare of the people in Indonesia’s easternmost province.

“Otsus is a form of central government concern for the welfare of the people in Papua,” said the Head of the Central Mountains Tribe in South Jayapura District, Jayapura City, Bani Tabuni in Jayapura, Friday.

The former member of the Jayapura City DPRD said that the otsus should be extended and revised in the interests of many people, not rejecting the extension of the special autonomy as argued by some elements.

Otsus is a development solution that can improve the welfare of the community because if you only expect the APBN and APBD, many areas will not be touched by development, especially in mountainous areas.

That is why Otsus is the right solution to boost Papua’s progress while at the same time prospering its people, he said.

Regarding the rejection made by a group of people, Bani Tabuni stated that a group of residents who rejected the special autonomy program were suspected of being ridden by certain individuals.

“They do not understand that Otsus is actually very important, so they hope the government will be wiser in responding to the dynamics related to Otsus,” said Bani Tabuni.

Meanwhile, Papua Special Autonomy was granted through Law No. 21/2001. Special Autonomy for Papua is granted as a privilege to the region. Law No. 21/2001 regulates a number of matters related to special autonomy to improve the welfare of the Papuan people.

Notes: translated from Papua ANTARA News, tribe chief statement that special autonomy is a solution reflects the voice of his people.
