Jayapura (ANTARA) – The EcoNusa Foundation has launched a limited assistance program for journalists, freelance journalists, bloggers or vloggers to cover issues related to natural resources in the Land of Papua and the Maluku Islands, as well as the Indonesian Sea.

CEO of EcoNusa Foundation Bustar Maitar told Antara in Jayapura, Wednesday that the first program, namely the Journalist Fellowship, is a program that invites mass media journalists (print-online-TV), freelance journalists, bloggers and vloggers, especially in Papua or Maluku Islands, to create coverage related to local natural resource issues.

“The coverage is themed ‘Land of Papua and Maluku: The Last Bastion of Indonesian Forests’. This program wants to bring stories from Papua and Maluku to the public,” he said.

According to Bustar, the second program is the Journalist Fellowsea which invites mass media journalists (print-online-TV), freelance journalists, bloggers and vloggers to make coverage related to marine issues in Indonesia, such as plastic waste, coastal community life, marine life, and so on with the theme “Sea of ​​the Future of the Nation”.

“The two programs invite journalists and the public who have an interest in writing and making videos to be actively involved in voicing environmental issues,” he said.

He explained that the EcoNusa Foundation wants to maximize the role of various existing media, both print media, online media, TV and blogs and youtube to disseminate issues related to natural resources in Papua and Maluku Islands, as well as marine issues in Indonesia.

“Issues related to natural resources that can be raised in the Journalist Fellowship include forest management, indigenous peoples, sustainable development, the threats faced, and climate change,” he said.

He added, Indonesian marine issues that can be raised in the Journalist Fellowsea are the issue of plastic waste, coastal and marine ecosystems, the role of youth in preserving the sea, as well as development governance policies.

“Hopefully, with the increasing number of articles or videos related to the issue of natural resources in the Land of Papua and the Maluku Islands, the Indonesian Sea can awaken and invite the public at large to care for and protect forests and seas in Indonesia,” he said.
