West Papua issue in Africa

African leaders support Indonesia

In discussing West Papua issue in Africa, first we should know the background of Indonesia – Africa relations.

During the self-determination process of decolonisation in West Papua, Indonesia and the Netherlands went through an international legal process supervised by the UN. All African leaders were sympathetic to Indonesia to solve separatism problem in West Papua, they were always committed to the Non-Aligned Movement position.  None of the African leaders were convinced that West Papua had the right to be self-governed, all of these leaders were willing to vote for Indonesia and support the decolonisation process from the Netherlands (UN History).

Indonesia – Africa Relations

Indonesia and the African region have established close relations in the political field since the Asian-African Conference in Bandung, in 1955.

Since President Joko Widodo took office in 2014, Indonesia’s Africa policy has prioritised economic engagement and cooperation. According to the Trade Ministry, in 2017 the country’s total exports to African countries stood at US$4.86 billion, a marked increase from US$4.16 billion in 2016. With the positive trends continuing, the country is ready to take further steps to enhance economic ties with Africa.

In 2015, Indonesia once again hosted the conference in commemoration of its 60th anniversary. This summit marked a new era of relationship between Indonesia and Africa.

Indonesia hosted the first-ever Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) from April 10 to 11 2018 at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, Bali. The Forum marks a historical milestone in friendship and cooperation between Indonesia and the countries of Africa.   The IAF 2018 is expected to attract 550 delegates from Indonesia and African countries. High-level delegates will include ministers from both Indonesia and African countries.

Indonesia’s main exports to the continent include palm oil, garments, processed foods and beverages. From Africa, imports are mainly crude oil, cocoa beans, cotton, and chemicals for fertilizers and industries.

West Papua propaganda in Africa

Several leaders of Free West Papua movement tried to ask support from African countries, but none of African leaders support them. The latest Free West Papua propaganda aiming at African people and countries is using Global Pan Africanism Network (GPAN), an International Civil Rights and Pan African organization. This non-government organisation has been deceived by Free West Papua and received attention in their media social, higher than African issue.

The truth will reveal itself someday. All African countries, non-government organisations and African people will see that the conflict in West Papua exist because of a small group of trouble maker called Free West Papua. I believe the current discussion regarding West Papua issue in Africa is mostly part of Free West Papua evil campaign against peace dan democratic Indonesia, and it will eventually fail because all African countries are friends of Indonesia.

West Papua View All

This Blog has gone through many obstacles and attacks from violent Free West Papua separatist supporters and ultra nationalist Indonesian since 2007. However, it has remained throughout a time devouring thoughts of how to bring peace to Papua and West Papua provinces of Indonesia.
