Teaching and learning activities for children were forced to stop due to security threat from Papua armed criminal group
Security threat against education
KOMPAS.com – The conflict between armed criminal groups (KKB) and security forces in Papua has made many sectors run inappropriately.
Including in terms of education. Even children who are students at Intan Jaya and Nduga cannot go to school and get proper education. This is because armed conflict has caused the children’s families to flee their homes.
So that teaching and learning activities in several locations were forced to stop due to safety factors.
Head of the Papua Regional Education, Library and Archives (DPPAD) Office, Christian Sohilat, said the government must immediately make efforts to rescue this problem. Because, these children are the next generation in their area. “We have to save the children there (Intan Jaya and Nduga) because they are successors. If we don’t help, there will be no more generation,” said Christian Sohilait, Wednesday (10/2/2021).
The office admits that they will immediately collect data on students affected by the ongoing conflict in Intan Jaya and Nduga. He also proposed building a dormitory to accommodate children who moved from their place of residence and stopped going to school, “All the children in our hot areas will gather in Keneyam (the capital of Nduga) and I have coordinated with Bappenas to build a hostel there and we accommodate, “he said.
Not only to the Keneyam area, residents in Nduga have also moved to Lanny Jaya and Jayawijaya Regencies. “For the children in Wamena (Jayawijaya) and Lanny Jaya, we will ask that the children be spread across the schools there,” said Christian.
Not only has an impact on education, the KKB’s armed conflict with the apparatus also has an impact on the running of the government. Intan Jaya Regent Natalis Tabuni previously admitted that he was no longer based in Sugapa, the capital of Intan Jaya for safety reasons.
But on Wednesday (10/2/2021), Natalis Tabuni again set foot in his office in Sugapa District. Natalis also asked ASNs to return to Sugapa and work so that the wheels of government run. “Yesterday I issued an appeal for ASN to go up (to Sugapa) tomorrow and next week the government will be able to run,” he said when contacted by telephone, Wednesday.
The government, he said, together with the entire Intan Jaya Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkompinda) will embrace community, customary and religious leaders. They will be invited to restore security conditions in the district located in the central mountainous region of Papua.
