Development of disadvantaged areas must be integrated: minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The expedited development of disadvantaged areas must be accomplished through simultaneous and integrated coordination between related ministries or institutions, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, has said.

It is not enough to coordinate between ministries and institutions under the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture for development handling, he noted at an online event on Tuesday.

Sometimes frequent coordination with ministries outside the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture is required, such as the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.

The handling of disadvantaged areas cannot just rely on the technical ministry that is responsible for this, in this case, the Villages, Disadvantaged Areas, and Transmigration Ministry, since it has its own restrictions, he opined.

2022 is the third period year in the 2020–2024 Medium-Term National Development Program (RPJMN), he said.

This is a very short time to carry out the task of expediting the development of disadvantaged areas together.

Hence, coordination and synchronization with other ministries or institutions are needed to depart from the same indicator.

Within the 2020–2024 RPJMN, the number of disadvantaged regions targeted to be alleviated by the end of 2024 is 25 out of the total 62 disadvantaged districts, he informed.

During Tuesday’s event, Villages, Disadvantaged Areas, and Transmigration (PDTT) Minister Abdul Halim Iskandar said he is optimistic that his ministry will be able to alleviate 32 disadvantaged areas in Indonesia by 2024.

Alleviating disadvantaged areas necessitates integrated action from ministries or institutions, regional governments, central government, and other stakeholders, he added.

“Through integrated collaborative move between many parties, alleviation of disadvantaged areas can be completed by 2024 as mandated by the 2020–2024 RPJMN,” he said.
