West Papua: A challenge for Democratic Indonesia

February 08, 2009 Free West Papua

Many lobby groups challenged the Australian Rudd government over its approach to human rights situation in West Papua.  AWPA, all together with some political opportunist like Paula Makabory and  Joe  Collins, have written to the Autralian Government either the Prime Minister Rudd or Foreign minister Stephen Smith asking for evidence that the government is taking real action to make the Indonesian military accountable.

West papua  has been integrated to Indonesia legally since the late 60’s and its rule is welcomed by many in the international community. The mistakes that have been made during the  New Order in the past are used by political adventurers such as Herman Wainggai, Sem Karoba and Benny Wenda for personal interest. Those people are nothing but deceivers. Most Papuan could easily recognized who are the trully defenders of Papuan rights. Idealist Papuans like Theys Eluay, John Otto Ondowame, Andy Ayamiseba, Kaisiepo’s family, Tom Beanal, Agus Alua, etc  are more respected than political scumbags who love to incite conflict among peoples who live in Papua from foreign countries. Most Papuan loves our indigenous local leaders like Governor Barnabas Suebu and Governor Abraham Octavianus Atururi. We also love our indigenous regency heads like Melkias Habel Suwae, Eduard Fonataba, Celcius Watae, Johanis Gluba Gebze, Yusevius Biakai, Nicolas Jigibalom, Wellington Lod Wenda, David Pagawak, and many other regency heads. All Papuans are brother, and if we united with all population who live in Papua then we can build our peaceful land for the better future of Papua.

However, the authoritarian regime of the Indonesian military New Order were accused by human rights groups of serious abuses against human rights activists. Yes sure…all Papuan people know about what happened during the New Order era, don’t  teach us about history. There is a big hope for peaceful development in Papua if Indonesian military successfully reform itself. We also must push the political scumbags like Herman Wainggai and Benny Wenda to stop their personal political adventure abroad.

Whenever a human rights incident occur in Papua, we should take serious efforts to tackle it directly with Indonesian democratic authority. Only by creating a fresh atmosphere of justice and cooperation among us, then we can create Papua as a beautiful heaven on earth.
