George Awi: It is not appropriate to refuse Papua’s Special Autonomy

Papua’s Sepcial Autonomy – West Papua Blog

Customary figure or Chairman of the Port Numbay Indigenous Peoples Institution (LMA) George Awi said if there are groups or political elites, both the Papuan People’s Representative Council (DPR) and the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP), let alone the executive is not fit to declare himself rejecting Otsus.

“If any of the MRP states that they refuse Special Autonomy, I think the MRP is dissolved. After all, the MRP was born from the Special Autonomy mandate, so if there is no Special Autonomy means the MRP is too,” he said in Jayapura, Papua, Monday.

According to him, both the MRP, DPRP and executives (regional and provincial governments) are government institutions that are components using the special autonomy budget.

“The MRP itself was actually born from the special autonomy, so the designation of the DPRP arises because of the special autonomy while the executive as the party who runs the government policy in the special autonomy,” he said.

If there is disappointment, dissatisfaction raised so far is actually a natural thing, but the attitude that must be conveyed is not to refuse but evaluation.

“The Central Government and even President Jokowi are seen giving signals for a comprehensive evaluation so that it is not appropriate if the political elite who use the special autonomy funds instead say they reject the special autonomy,” he said.

George also alluded to the political elite who refused otsus. According to George, they should not be angry if there were regional heads in Papua who could be held by the Indonesian archipelago and not native Papuans. Likewise with the regent and all his apparatus for refusing otsus.

“If Otsus is rejected and no longer applies, it means that all regulations that were born due to special autonomy will also be abolished. This means that the regional head may be the one who leads. There is no affirmative, no more rations by the Police, TNI, IPDN or entering universities dominated by Otsus. , “he said.

According to him, this must be understood well, but George did not say that Otsus was not without gaps but there were many things that needed to be corrected so that they could be maximized.

“It’s the same as a water pipe that leaked. Of course, you don’t have to replace it or cut it, but there is an effort to repair the leaked channel. Well, I mean there is an evaluation, so if someone screams refuse, try asking lest he also enjoyed but pretending not to be affected by Otsus, “he said.
