Jayapura (ANTARA) – The head of the Papua Election Commission (KPU), Theodorus Kossay, admitted that currently there are five candidates for regent and deputy regent candidates from individuals or non-parties participating in the 2020 regional elections.

The five pairs of regent and deputy regent balloons will compete in five districts of Papua province, namely Keerom, Asmat, Mamberamo Raya, Supiori and Waropen districts.

“With the requirements related to individuals fulfilled, the five candidates will register their participation at the KPU in five districts,” said the Chairman of the Papua Election Commission Theodorus Kossay to Antara, Tuesday.

It was explained that the registration of the candidates for regent and deputy regent would be held from September 4-6.

Prospective candidates are expected to register not on the last date or day because if there is a shortage of files when registration can be completed immediately.

In addition, it is also hoped that when registering, you will not bring in supporting masses because currently the COVID-19 pandemic is still endemic so it is mandatory to comply with health protocols, Kossay hoped.

He explained, 11 districts that will carry out the pilkada are Keerom, Mamberamo Raya, Yalimo Merauke, Boven Digul, Waropen, Supiori, Bintang Mountains, Yahukimo, Asmat and Nabire districts.

Of the 11 districts that carried out the pilkada, two of them were taken over by the Papua KPU, namely the Mamberamo Raya KPU and the Keerom KPU.

However, in the near future, the inauguration of KPU members will be carried out in the two districts, explained Theodorus Kossay.
