Religious harmony in Papua

Jayapura (ANTARA) – Minister of Religion Fachrul Razi presented the Mayor of Jayapura, Papua, Benhur Tomi Mano, the Harmony Award for fostering religious harmony.

The Minister of Religion gave the award when launching the We Love Papua Program, which at the same time held a meeting with Papuan religious and traditional leaders at a hotel in Jayapura City, Thursday.

The award was given for the concern of the Mayor of Jayapura in fostering harmony between religious believers.

After receiving the award, the Mayor of Jayapura, Benhur Tomi Mano, expressed his gratitude to all religious communities in Jayapura City who helped create harmony between religious communities.

Jayapura City is a common house, a safe, and peaceful home so that all its citizens can live side by side.

Moreover, during his eight years of leadership, he has made the city which is the capital of Papua a safe and comfortable home for all religious adherents.

For example, said Tomi, when commemorating Christmas, Muslim youths helped to secure the holy night worship and on the other hand, during Eid, the church youth would secure the night of takbiran.

The Jayapura City Government also built a FKUB building which became a place for all religious leaders to discuss and discuss work programs to maintain and improve harmony between religious believers, said BTM.

Apart from Jayapura City, there were four regions that received the award of religious harmony in Papua, namely Tolikara, Jayapura, Memberamo Tengah and Puncak Regencies.
