The Papua armed criminal group uses cunning tactics and victimizes civilians
Brutal armed criminal group
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Armed civilian criminal groups in Papua employ cunning tactics and victimize civilians in the series of brutal violence they perpetrate.
The Head of Information for the Defense Region III Joint Command of the TNI, Colonel Czi IGN Suriastawa, in his statement, in Jakarta, Saturday, said that the series of violence by armed gangs is getting more brutal and eyesightless, no longer paying attention to who is the victim, including civilians.
“This is very regrettable because this means a violation of human rights and human values. Civil society is a party that all parties need to protect,” he said.
As with previous attacks, armed mob attacks occurred again. This time against the TNI Post, on Saturday (10/10/2020), in Koteka Village, Kenyam District, Nduga Regency, which was suspected to provoke TNI personnel to return fire.
However, it turned out that TNI personnel acted professionally by remaining alert in their defensive position and continuously observing the direction of the shots.
TNI personnel will return targeted shots if the armed gang members who attacked have been identified with certainty to avoid civilian casualties around the scene. This was also done by other TNI personnel who served in every place in Papua.
He conveyed that there is an interesting phenomenon from the tactics of armed civilian groups lately by trying to provoke the TNI-Polri at every place, time and opportunity and attacking in the midst of a crowd of civilians.
He stated that the armed group hoped that TNI-Polri personnel returned fire so that if a civilian victim fell, it would become material for slander and false news from them that the victims were killed by TNI personnel.
“It seems that this method is an order from their supporters abroad who always talk about human rights violations,” he said.
They, he said, needed material to corner the Indonesian government in international forums, even though they were the perpetrators. It has been proven several times that armed groups and their supporters have always distorted the facts.
“They do not comment if the victims proven to have killed them are civilians, both native Papuans and migrants. This is proof that they are the real human rights violators,” he said.
According to him, this is very likely because TNI personnel are professional, remain calm, do not return fire from their attacks, the armed separatist group itself will shoot and attempt to kill civilians as material slander to the TNI-Polri.
“Hopefully the citizens and the international community can understand this situation and do not easily believe the slander and fake news that KKSB and its supporting groups always play abroad,” he said.
After failing to get the attention of the UN General Assembly on September 22-29 2020, armed separatist groups in Papua are increasingly violent and blindly attacking state officials and civilians to show their existence which is increasingly ignored by society.
The methods used include provoking, terrorizing, sacrificing civilians and then slandering the TNI-Polri apparatus who are tasked with maintaining security and peace in Papua.
The aim is that local people are depressed and forced to support them and gain worldwide attention.
