Jakarta – The Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand Tantowi Yahya condemned the atrocities committed by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) against the Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) in Intan Jaya, Papua Province.

According to him, this shooting added to the list of atrocities by Papuan separatists.

“The international community needs to see this from a broader perspective. The Papuan separatists who in various forums are fond of accusing the Indonesian government of crimes against human rights, it turns out that the atrocities came from themselves,” said Tantowi in a written statement, Tuesday (13/10). 2020).

Tantowi assessed the shooting was due to Papuan separatists who were worried about the facts that could be revealed if TGPF completed its duties.

Tantowi also prayed for TGPF members who were victims of the shooting to recover quickly and return to their homes safely.

As previously reported, the Government of Indonesia formed TGPF which consists of a combination of military, civilian and academic circles.

TGPF is to be able to reveal the death of Pastor Yeremias Zanambani and other victims consisting of 2 members of the TNI and 1 civilian in the shooting incident last September 2020.

But unfortunately after only 2 days on duty, TGPF was intercepted and shot by KKB which resulted in gunshot wounds to a member of the TNI and lecturer at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Bambang Purwoko.

The TGPF investigation process continues. TGPF has investigated a series of shooting cases that killed 2 TNI members, 1 civilian, and 1 priest. A total of 25 witnesses have been examined.

“There were 24 witnesses we met and 1 person only used the telephone, because of the situation, so there were a total of 25 witnesses.

For the results of disclosure, we must first report to the leadership, it is not logical if the leadership does not know I have already conveyed it to a friend (journalist), “said Chairman of the Joint Fact Finding Team, Benny Josua Mamoto, Monday (12/10/2020).

Benny said his team did not go directly to the witnesses for security reasons. His party will continue to coordinate with local officials regarding the progress of the investigation.

“We have made various efforts according to our target. If there is a shortage, we will coordinate with the Danrem, Kapolda, Pangdam and Direskrim,” said Benny.
