Make West Papua Safe

Make West Papua Safe (MWPS) is a campaign that suppose to genuinely bring peace and safety to all people in Papua and West Papua province. Unfortunately, such campaign is just a deception of support to political and violent campaign by Free West Papua and Free West Papua armed criminal group.

MWPS is a cunning deceptive campaign by conflict provocateurs like Jason MacLeod and Maire Leadbeater, whoever they are I know nothing about. Combined with their twitter account @MakeWPapuaSafe, they want to create an image of a humanist campaign to help West Papuan. However, if we read their story, strategy, action, and begging for money program, we can conclude that the campaign has a mixture mission that may push the conflict in Papua and West Papua deeper.

For example, a very good community policing program initiated by the New Zealand for Papuan local police was criticized by MWPS. They said they want :

“to organise a campaign to stop New Zealand government funding for a controversial community policing program with the Indonesian police. Maire’s success and the challenge to be a good neighbour from those young Papuans got Rosa and Jason, and other friends, thinking about how we might organise a similar campaign to enable people in Australia and elsewhere to stand up for West Papua. That’s where the Make West Papua Safe campaign started.”

MWPS was started from a wrong point, community policing is very important in improving the quality of Indonesian police, especially in Papua an West Papua. This quality is in line with the principle of democracy.

The most disgusting part of Make West Papua Safe campaign is the donation section. They said:

“We need your support. Together we can work towards achieving a safe West Papua for all!”

Your donation will go towards:

• operation of the campaign
• advocacy work
• training
• events
• lobbying work
• community organising

They claim they work towards achieving a safe West Papua for all. In contrast, their campaign instigate bloody conflict by giving false hope to Free West Papua armed criminal group to start killing other Papuan fellows and non-Papuan based on racist attitude.
