Medical Team to Help Refugees

PAPUAinside. com, JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) sent a Recovery Team and Medical Team to help refugees in Intan Jaya.
Respectively, the Papua Provincial Health Office and the Papua Province Social, Population, Women Empowerment and Child Protection Office.
The head of the Papua Health Office, Dr Robby Kayame, SKM, MKes stated that due to the conflict in the Intan Jaya district, the community fled to several surrounding districts, such as Nabire, Timika and Sugapa themselves.
The community experienced psychological and physical trauma as well as hunger (malnutrition), especially for infants and toddlers.
For this reason, Robby Kayame sent a recovery team and medical team to evacuation points on March 3, 2021, which helped the community, to immediately recover from their condition.
The aid that was sent was medicine, supplementary food and trauma recovery aid packages, the main activities of the team at the location included.
- Treatment and care.
- Mental recovery.
- Improving community nutrition by providing nutritional food for infants and toddlers.
- Training on vaccinators and administering the Covid-19 vaccine.
- Socialization to the community.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Social, Population, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Service for Papua, Dr. Ribka Haluk, SSos, MM stated that social handling in Intan Jaya district had started some time ago, namely conducting intense coordination with the Intan Jaya Regency Government, but handling it directly done the last few times.
The Papua provincial government sent 2 containers of social assistance through the port in Nabire, consisting of 120 tons of rice, 12,000 packs of instant noodles (300 cartons), 1,000 kg of sugar (20 bags), 1,000 cooking oil (42 cartons), 1,000 cans of canned fish. (20 cartons), Velbet 30 units, family Y. kit 50 packages, food ware 50 packages, 80 pieces woll blanket, 100 sheets of mattress, family kitchen utensils, 126 packages, equipment and hygiene for vulnerable groups (children) 357 packages, equipment and group hygiene vulnerable (Elderly) 320 packages, equipment and hygiene for vulnerable groups (with special needs) 320 packages as well as salt and towels.
Ribka emphasized that currently the refugees in Nabire are mostly from the district capital, Sugapa spread over 17 points in Nabire district as well as several locations in Timika district.
However, there are still a lot of people in districts or areas outside the district capital and of course, because the economy is not optimal, its citizens also need a lot of support / assistance, for this coordination is still carried out either with the government or local church leaders, so that they can find the best solution for the community.
The prolonged social problems during the current pandemic require enormous energy, but with the spirit of togetherness with all relevant stakeholders, the Papua Provincial Government hopes that social problems in Intan Jaya Regency can be resolved immediately, so that programs to improve health and endurance people facing the Covid-19 pandemic in Papua, especially in Intan Jaya district, can run optimally.
