Jakarta – Two teachers were shot dead by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Beoga District, Puncak Regency, Papua. The two teachers were named Oktavianus Rayo (42) and Yonathan Renden (28).

Oktavianus Rayo was shot by KKB in Julukoma Village, Beoga District, on Thursday (8/4). Meanwhile, Yonathan was shot on Friday (9/4) in Ongolan Village, Beoga District.

The KKB’s action was criticized by the Deputy Governor (Deputy Governor) of Papua Klemen Tinal. He considered the actions of the perpetrators to be very heinous and barbaric because they were inhumane and irresponsible.

“We condemn the shooting, because they are barbaric and inappropriate and they don’t deserve to do it. It’s a criminal act. Brutes, it can’t be like that because it happened in my village,” said Klemen Tinal Deputy Governor after leading a limited meeting, according to a written statement received by the TNI Puspen. , Wednesday (14/4/2021).

The two educators volunteered to teach in the interior in order to educate the lives of Papuan children. The Deputy Governor asked the TNI-Polri to continue to pursue the perpetrators so that they can be held accountable.

Puncak Regent Wilem Wandik said the shooting of Oktavianus and Yonathan was the first incident that occurred during his tenure as regent. He hopes that in the future there will be no similar event because the presence of teachers is very much needed to improve human resources in Puncak Regency.

“Teachers and medical personnel are humanitarian fighters. They should receive protection,” said Wandik.

Octavian’s death makes the students lose. As a teacher, Octavian was known to be close to students.

“The pupils at Octavian’s place of teaching feel very lost. They are very close to Octavian and they even cry along to pray for the teacher,” said one resident who declined to be named.

Octavian teaches at Yulukoma Elementary School, Beoga District. The incident began at around 09.50 WIT in Julukoma Village where the KKB group shot civilians. Then KKB came to Oktovianus’ house and shot him.

Meanwhile, Yonathan’s struggle as a teacher in the interior of Papua also left sadness. Yonathan is known to have left a child aged 2 years and 6 months.

Until the end of his life, Jonathan had not seen him since the child was born.

It is known that Yonathan has been serving as an honorary teacher at SMPN 1 Beoga. Yonathan Randen’s body was taken to his hometown in Tongkonan Ra’be, Lembang Batulimbong, Bangke-Lekila District, North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi.

Jonathan’s wife could not hold back her tears when she saw her husband’s coffin. He was even seen collapsed so that his relatives had to carry him.
