TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said that the acceleration of Papua’s development involves the community and the local government, so that it is not based solely on the central government.

“We are not only looking at aspects from the views of the central government, but also regional, provincial, district and city governments, as well as the views of the community,” said Ma’ruf Amin on the sidelines of his working visit in Papua Province, Saturday, November 6, 2021. .

By involving the interests of the local community, said Ma’ruf, the development of Papua is realized in accordance with the needs and desires of the community. “My term, we want to build according to the needs of the community, the wishes of the community, both indigenous peoples and the whole community,” he said.

The synergy between the central and regional governments can also evaluate the progress of accelerating development so far by strengthening the legal umbrella through Law Number 2 of 2021 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Papua Province.

Through the latest Special Autonomy Law, Ma’ruf added, the government involves the contribution of the Papuan people or indigenous Papuans in accelerating its development. “We hope this will give trust from the Papuan people, from Papuan leaders, both government leaders, traditional leaders, religious leaders and women’s leaders,” he said.

The central government, he said, was also promoting dialogue with the Papuan people to eliminate discontent and to accelerate development. “We will continue to carry out dialogues in order to eliminate this dissatisfaction. With this dissatisfaction getting lost, we hope that it will affect the overall security condition in Papua,” said Ma’ruf Amin.
