Benny Wenda undemocratic view on referendum
Benny Wenda undemocratic view is something new. He used every trick to deceive the world by playing a role as a victim to get sympathy. He successfully kicked out Octo Mote by spreading lies about Mr. Mote’s private life among West Papuan separatist group. Benny Wenda undemocratic view can also be seen in his leadership of Free West Papua and the United Liberation Movement for West Papua.
When Benny Wenda said referendum is the only solution, he clearly showed his true intention not to discuss about anything else but referendum. His fixated attitude has caused many innocent people killed and many efforts for peace in Papua and West Papua crumbled. Benny Wenda is the only person who rejected Papua Road Map for peaceful solution. He successfully influenced other Papuan separatist leaders like Octovianus Mote, Rex Rumakiek, Jakob Rumbiak, Paula Makabori, the late Andy Ayamiseba, and Oridek Ap to support his idea about maintaining conflict in Papua and West Papua as long as possible.
Interestingly, whenever Papuan local leaders discussed special autonomy for Papuan people, Benny Wenda always commenting and talking about referendum in a way that is not normal because he has no reason whatsoever but to maintain his position as separatist opportunist to screwing up Papuan bright future under special autonomy. With a small number of support from radical groups in the region, he continues to inflame a conflicted situation in Papua and West Papua.
Fortunately, democratic leaders in Papua and West Papua are not provoked by the instigation of separatist groups and continue to do their best to develop the region.
One of Benny Wenda’s usual fixated comment is: “We completely reject the “autonomy” and “development” carried out by an illegal colonial occupation.” He forgot that those who responsible for development is Papuan local government and the central government of Indonesia supports the development by special autonomy.
