West Papua Drama Queen

Veronica Koman, a Chinese Indonesian who used to work helping West Papuan to fight for independence may have thousands scenarios to twist every story about West Papua. She has the brain and tongue to shake peace and stability in West Papua by pushing West Papuan to jump into deeper conflict that can create a situation of killing each other without realising it.

She doesn’t have the heart to see the bigger picture of conflict in West Papua and only putting herself as a self claim of West Papuan human rights defender. With only one agenda to create a new country of West Papua, she push conflict in West Papua into the depth of despair. Why?

Legally and de facto West Papua, which is now consist of two provinces Papua and West Papua, is part of Indonesia. Any effort to separate it from Indonesia will face the consequence from Indonesia. This basic principle is supported by all sovereign country in the world. Fortunately, Indonesia is a democratic country that respect human rights and protect Papuan from violent separatist movement. In contrast to communist or military junta, succession movement will be crushed by military power.

Since the political reform in 1998, Indonesia has stopped the status of military operation in the region. However, some small separatist groups like Free West Papua, Free Papua Movement, and other smaller groups supported by Veronica Koman continue to maintain conflict by spreading propaganda about West Papua independence.

In the name of human rights, separatism either with political lobbying or violent terror are intertwined together causing trouble for democracy to work in the region.

The newest Koman propaganda is the so called “West Papuan People Pay Financial Punisment Levied as an Attempt by Jakarta to Punish Veronica Koman for Her support“. It was first published in Koman’s Twitter account.

There is nothing serious about Koman’s propaganda but an increase of sentiment to support her. By saying on behalf of the Papuan people, Koman is trying to create a public opinion that Papuan people support her. In reality, we don’t know who pay the money. For some corrupt Papuan local government to pay Koman’s debt is not difficult.

Koman’s then express her big thanks to West Papuan people and vow to continue her support and talking about respect.

I would say, she is a very successful drama queen who think she win the session of an opera about her cunning efforts to deceive West Papuan dan Indonesian government, especially the LPDP.

As a drama queen, Veronica Koman likes to blow everything totally out of proportion because she either want to seek attention or have some emotional dysfunction and it’s her duty to make life harder for everyone regarding West Papua. There are many other possibilities that can explain Koman’s behaviour.

The easiest way to see Koman’s behaviour is by looking at how she express he thought either when she speaks or write. Please look at some examples in English and bahasa Indonesia:

As an observer, West Papua Blog has no emotion when reading the translation of Koman’s propaganda. However, for most Indonesian perhaps it may have some negative impact. There is some degree of humiliating Indonesia and Koman may expect harsh reaction to make everything out of proportion. As Indonesia is still in euphoria of freedom of expression through Social Media, Koman will meet her expectation of so many comments on her provocative drama queen scenario. Congratulations !

As we can see from Koman’s expression and picture attached, the message is clear, she mixed her personal drama queen story with national symbol of Indonesia, and the issue of special autonomy, which all has no relations.

Naming and shaming a country is a method by Human Rights organisations in the world. Amnesty International (AI) and Human Rights Watch (HRW) often use the naming and shaming method to improve the quality of human rights in a targeted country. However, they never use it for conflict provocation, their intention is to prevent human rights violations. They maintain their impartial position and focus on human rights issue and not political differences.

In contrast to that, the use of naming and shaming Indonesia by Veronica Koman is totally different from AI dan HRW. She is continuously naming and shaming Indonesia for her personal benefit and for provoking separatism in Papua and West Papua.

Everything is clear, Koman’s case is too small and has little influence. However, if Indonesia enter the trap of the drama queen, she may further excel he success story to be the centre of attention of West Papua issue, bigger than Benny Wenda, Victor Yeimo, Ronny Kareni, Jeffery Bomanak, Sebby Sambom, Egianus Kogoya, Lewis Prai Wellip, Octo Mote, Rex Rumakiek, Jacob Rumbiak and so on.
