Jayapura (ANTARA) – Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol Paulus Waterpauw said the armed criminal group (KKB) allegedly carried out the attack and shot at the Joint Fact Finding Team (TGPF) group, Friday (9/10) led by Sabinus Waker.
The group that previously operated in the Tembagapura area was known since the end of 2019 and has shifted to around the Intan Jaya Regency area.
“Sabinus Waker himself is the younger brother of Ayub Waker who died in 2019,” Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol Waterpauw told Antara, Friday night.
Contacted by the regional police chief on his cell phone, he admitted that the group that had 17 firearms was calling itself the “kemabu” group with 50 members.
When asked if there was a plan to add more troops to secure the investigation by TGPF, Inspector General of Waterpauw admitted that there was no plan yet.
“We maximize the existing personnel because the facilities and facilities in the area are limited,” admitted Inspector General of Waterpauw Police.
He said the team led by the head of TGPF Benny Mamoto was shot at upon his return from Hipadipa.
As a result, Bambang Purwoko, a member of the TGPF and two members of the TNI-AD were injured, said Inspector General of Police Waterpauw.
Deputy Chairperson of TGPF Sugeng Purnomo separately admitted that with the shooting incident, an evaluation would be carried out but the priority was to deal with the two victims.
It is not yet certain what the team will take next steps because of its presence in Intan Jaya to gather evidence to reveal the truth regarding various cases of violence and shootings that occurred in the area during last September.
The attack on the group was carried out at around 15:43 WIT from the sides of the road being passed, said Sugeng Purnomo, who once served as the Papua Prosecutor’s Office.
