Wamena, Papua (ANTARA) – The Jayawijaya Regency Government of Papua Province hopes for the participation of TNI members at Kodim 1702 / Jayawijaya to continue to motivate farmers or local communities to use vacant land as vegetable plantations.

Jayawijaya Agriculture Service official Nelce Wakano in Wamena, Papua province Sunday, said that recently his party attended the harvest of tomatoes cultivated by TNI members from Kodim 1702.

“At the big harvest, we hope that the residents present take an example of what the members of the Jayawijaya Regional Military Command 1702 have done so that it can be applied in their respective environments,” he said.

The Head of Food Crops at the Jayawijaya Agriculture Service said that his party is ready to provide support for residents who want to do the same thing, as has been done by members of the Jayawijaya Military Command.

“We will provide support to farmers in the form of supplies and counseling so that the harvest will be better,” said Nelce Wakano.

Officer of the Territorial Section (Pasiter) of Kodim 1702 / Jayawijaya Captain (Inf) Aprin Paembonan said that some time ago, the tomatoes were harvested on an area of ​​approximately 250 square meters.

“This is part of realizing food self-sufficiency. Of course this will also improve the member economy,” he said.

He said the use of the vacant land around the yard of Kodim 1702 would continue.

“Together with the members, we will cultivate the existing vacant land, into productive land for planting various kinds of plants, one of which is tomatoes. And in the future we will cultivate eggplant, rica and so on,” said Aprin Paembonan.
