Papua People’s Representative Council: Special autonomy continued by a revision of the law

Special autonomy continued is a good news for West Papua

West Papua Blog – Yapen – Chairperson of the Papua DPR, Jhon Banua Rouw said that, in fact the Central Government had issued a special policy prior to the existence of special autonomy (Otsus), Papua was very far behind other regions but today, the DPRP received information from the center that the special autonomy was followed by a revision of the law.

“There was a letter from the Center that only revised article 34, which will be discussed. Therefore, it is hoped that the public’s perception is the same so that there is no longer any polemic in the community about Otsus, “he said when delivering a speech at a meeting with the local government of the Yapen Islands Regency at the Silaspapare Building, Serui, Tuesday (4/8/2020).

He continued, related to the current special autonomy system so that it was agreed that whatever the aspirations of the community would be accepted and brought to the center, the DPRP is making a study which will be presented from the start.

“Of the many aspirations that have been received, there is an idea that it will design development routes in Papua with the authorities,” he said.

In addition, the DPRP wants to hear good thoughts and suggestions on how to serve the community, so that it will become material that will be discussed with the Provincial Government, including if there are suggestions related to development and its financing system. This needs to be done, seeing Otsus running for almost 20 years, but so many voices have rejected Otsus.

“In fact, if we read the Special Autonomy Law, there is no mention that the Special Autonomy Law will end, this is a wrong opinion, the Special Autonomy never ends, no one mentions 20 years of Otsus, so what ends is the funds, not Law 21. This is an incorrect opinion, what is the difference between a law regulating a special capital region, “he said.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Yapen Islands Regency, Tony Tesar, revealed that even in a pandemic, the event could still take place with health protocols.

“Welcome to Serui City, the struggle of the Yapen archipelago district still needs a lot of support from the provincial government in development to create a more comfortable Yapen island community. Therefore, it is hoped that in this face-to-face meeting, the aspirations conveyed can be accepted, ”he said.

In addition, how can we fight for the acceleration of regional development in Papua, more specifically the Saireri region, this is useful to shorten the span of control of the Papua Provincial government, “he concluded.

  1. Most people rely on this special autonomy so stopping the implementation means ruining the papua’s welfare. Great post !

  2. Papuans feel the impact of the previous special autonomy and it should continue with the second chapter Flag of Indonesia. Thanks
