Separatist and Terrorist Group Act Again, Now Shooting Employees and Burning Residents’ Houses in Papua

Detik – The armed criminal group (KKB) has again attacked a district in Papua. An employee was shot and a resident’s house in Puncak Regency, Papua, was burned.
The Kasatgas for Peaceful Public Relations Cartenz Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal explained that the incident occurred Saturday (19/2/2022), at 15.30 WIT. The exact location of the incident is near the Kampung Kago Monument, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency

“There has been a shooting carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB) against the victim Glen Sumampo, an employee of PT MTT (Martha Tunggal Teknik),” said Ahmad in his statement, Sunday (20/2).

He explained that the victim and his friend, James Boniyaga, used a PT MTT truck to go to Kago Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, to search for an internet network as well as gallons of drinking water. Arriving near the Kampung Kago Monument, KKB approached the truck.

“(KKB) reasoned to borrow a lighter to burn cigarettes, then the perpetrator immediately shot the PT MTT truck which resulted in victim Glen Sumampo being shot in the left rib through the upper right rib,” explained Ahmad.

At 15.20 WIT, the perpetrator ran towards the Telkomsel Tower, Kampung Nipuralome, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency. The victim was evacuated to the Ilaga Health Center by his colleague and local residents using a motorbike.

“After the shooting incident against PT MTT employees, thick smoke was seen from the direction of Kali Ilume, Wako Village, which is a mess for PT MTT employees and one of the housing units had burned down,” said Ahmad.

One of the employees reported the incident to the Puncak Polres personnel asking for an evacuation. Ahmad said that at that time KKB was running on the Ilame river bridge while holding a gun, shouting in the local language.

“Glen Sumampo is still conscious and being treated at the Ilaga Health Center. Tomorrow, the victim will be evacuated to Timika,” he said.
